The Captain passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Marie. Survived by his daughters April (Gerry) and Jan, his brother Bernard Garner and sister Francis Garner, grandkids Kaela (Colin), Jenny, Sarah (James) and Gzerod (Stephanie) and great-grandkids Brandon, Kaden, Maya and Laeni. Alan and his family enjoyed living on Texada Island for many years. He was a Captain with BC Ferries and a proud piper with the Powell River Clansman Pipe Band. He spent his retirement years in Victoria. Alan also played with the Victoria Castle Carey Pipe Band. He was a veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy on a Corvette, The Oakville, in the North Atlantic. He traveled around the world several times as a sales executive for the Weiser Lock Company, enjoyed his own charter boat and diving business and kept busy long after his retirement. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. A true gentleman to the end. Heartfelt thanks to The Lodge At Broadmead for their loving care of Alan. A Celebration of Life will be held in Victoria in July, date to be determined.
